The BMW M 1000 RR 50 Years M
24 May 1972. BMW Motorsport GmbH and today’s BMW M GmbH launch operations. The goal had been clearly defined – and it was revolutionary for the circumstances at the time: BMW’s racing activities would be bundled and professionalised under one roof. Motorsport with its diverse challenges would fuel the construction of vehicles and engines. The iconic BMW Motorsport emblem with the three colours blue, red and violet is a striking, distinguishing feature.
The M RR 50 Years M: almost 100 years of motorcycle racing spirit and 50 years of motorsport history combined in one exclusive bike.
"Astrid Neudecker,
Product Manager
For 50 years, BMW M has been synonymous with a drive and passion, racing technology and racing success, as well as perfection and top performance in cars and motorcycles - worldwide. This historic DNA is united in the M RR 50 Years M. With its extraordinary genes, it has been created for everyone with particularly high demands in terms of performance, exclusivity and individuality.

More than a symbol
More than a symbol
Blue for BMW, red for motorsport and dark blue for the unique combination of the two: the uniform appearance was already revolutionary in 1972. In 1978, the logo was added with the three coloured stripes inclined towards the letter M, emphasising speed and dynamics. It was developed by Giorgio Giugiaro, Italdesign. And to this day, it has lost none of its radiance.
Racing DNA in every detail

The M RR 50 Years M has also been uncompromisingly geared towards performance off the road: With the M Cover Kit, the Sport assembly stand including the assembly stand mounts and the motorcycle carpet, the M RR is ready for every race track and for new victories.
A company is like a human. If it exercises, it stays in shape, is enthusiastic and performs better.

Active performance concept
In 1973, the BMW 3.0 CSL competed in the European Touring Car Championship as the first race car bearing the colours of the M logo. Colours that characterise the entire team presence and thus underpin the inimitable team spirit. CSL stands for Coupé Sport Lightweight construction. And not without reason: the vehicle's weight had been cut by almost 200 kg by uncompromising work on the vehicle.
In 1976, Helmut Dähne and Hans Otto Butenuth set the fastest time on the Isle of Man in the legendary Senior Tourist Trophy in the series-production engine category with a displacement of up to 1000 cc. A lot of work had already been done here as well: an R 90 S had been optimised for racing and improved with a new, outstanding trim. In recent years, our RR and M RR models have continued to shape the TT.
Enthralling enthusiasm
The BMW M1 super sports car entered the M1 Procar series in 1978. For the first time – in addition to the stripes – the M logo had also been added to a vehicle. Consistent because the M1's impressive body design, that captivates to this day, was also devised by Giorgio Guigiaro. At the time, the road version caused a sensation not only thanks to its appearance, but also as the “fastest sports car in Germany”.
In 1985, the M colours were once again at the top of the podium: Belgian Gaston Rahier won the Paris Dakar Rallye for the second time running on his GS 1000 works bike. After Hubert Auriol had already been successful with his BMW in 1981 and 1983. Even in scarcely populated regions of the world, blue, red and violet have become a byword for performance, team spirit and victories in motorsport.
