MOTORCYCLES, GIRLS AND FASHION – AN UNBEATABLE COMBINATION

01/04/2011

When you ride past your fellow motorcyclists on the street, in the country and even on the autobahn, do you ever wonder what these people might look like underneath their helmet? Could your future wife or husband have just passed by in the other direction? Did they notice you too? Does that long blonde pony-tail belong to a woman, or a man…?

All these thoughts, and more, were discussed by the creators of a Facebook site dedicated to great motorcycles, beautiful women and fantastic designer clothing. Known simply as ‘Motorcycles-Girls-Fashion’, the Facebook site has just had the results of its first competition – to find Germany’s most beautiful woman motorcyclist – and the winner just happens to be a big fan of the BMW S 1000 RR.

The competition asked all those women who considered themselves brave and beautiful enough to enter, to apply online from January until March 2011, by sending in a photo of themselves with their motorcycle. A jury would decide who the winner would be from all the participants and then the lucky girl would receive a special photo-shoot to the value of 5,000 Euros, as well as appear on the Facebook home page.

More than 65 beautiful German girls entered the competition and after much deliberation by the jury members, Amanda Martin from Munich was chosen as the winner. Her reward? A special PR photo-shoot featuring BMW motorcycles and BMW Rider Equipment, located in the confines of the FIZ (design centre) vehicle park, with talented fashion and lifestyle photographer Markus Hofmann behind the camera.

“It was a great idea to run this competition because we all love great bikes, beautiful women and fantastic designer clothing,” said Markus. “It took a long time to decide the winner but in the end, we all agreed that Amanda was the best choice. She was a perfect model throughout the shoot too, and was clearly thrilled by the RR, which she would have loved to take home with her.”

As for Amanda, she is no stranger to two wheels, having been taught to ride by her own father – a real motorcycling fanatic, who inspired her to ride from a young age and took her on many trips and tours.

“I love the feeling of pure freedom which I get from riding, nothing comes close to this feeling, although it was great to get up close to the S 1000 RR, even if it was just for the photo-shoot,” said Amanda, who has been riding for three years. “I felt very comfortable doing the assignment with Markus and his assistant, who did a really great job. The parking deck made for an interesting background for the RR, which I’m sure is great fun to ride, even for women. It’s a true enthusiast’s bike, on which you can really feel the power – even at a standstill! I’d love to see what it’s like to ride one of them though.”
